Artists Profile

Akhilesh

(B. 1956)

He was born in Indore in 1956, comes from a family with strong artistic roots, as his father was an art teacher in Madhya Pradesh. Despite his initial resistance to becoming an artist, Akhilesh's passion for art grew stronger during the final year of school, leading him to pursue a Diploma in Fine Arts. His background in a provincial town gives him a unique perspective, deeply rooted in tradition, while also embracing a fresh outlook that connects him to broader artistic trends. Influenced by the tribal and folk traditions of Madhya Pradesh, Akhilesh's work is a blend of these influences and contemporary art.

Later, Akhilesh ventured into Textile Designing and relocated to Bhopal, but his art continued to evolve. His paintings are often described as "a collection of beginnings" without definitive ends. This sense of openness gives his work an unfinished feel, yet it never appears incomplete. The lines in his paintings may seem to offer some structure, but they often dissolve into the canvas, resisting conventional linearity and creating a sense of fluidity.

Akhilesh’s paintings are rich with emotion, conveyed through vibrant colors that resonate with the viewer, though his work doesn't demand immediate attention. His art doesn’t make an overt statement but rather invites the patient observer to experience the layers of meaning and emotion embedded in the work. Akhilesh’s approach to translating familiar themes onto canvas gives his paintings a distinctive individuality, and his art rewards those who take the time to engage with it thoughtfully
