Asit Kumar Patnaik

(B. 1968)

He was born in 1968 in Orissa, is a highly acclaimed figurative painter known for his semi-realistic approach. He received his bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the Govt. College of Art and Crafts in Khallikote, Orissa, and later completed his MFA in Painting from BHU, Varanasi, where he was awarded a gold medal.

Patnaik’s paintings explore human psychology and the interpersonal relationships within society, with a strong emphasis on the emotional complexity of human beings. His works are characterized by semi-clad male and female figures depicted in open-ended postures, capturing various moods and sentiments. His technique and choice of colors and textures enhance the sensuality of these robust figures, while the deceptive simplicity of his lines adds an element of mystery and visual harmony.

He is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including a National Cultural Scholarship and a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, in the field of Fine Arts. His alma mater in Orissa has also recognized his achievements.

His works are housed in various public and private collections in India, Australia, USA, UK, South Korea, UAE, Bangladesh, South Africa, and Switzerland.

Currently, Asit Kumar Patnaik lives and works in New Delhi, continuing to explore and express the complexity of human emotions through his art.
