Manish Pushkale
(B. 1973)He is born in Bhopal in 1973, is a contemporary Indian artist known for his thought-provoking and mythologically influenced works. With a background in geology and a Master’s degree in art from the Art College in Bhopal, Pushkale merges his scientific training with his artistic expression, creating a unique visual language.
His work is deeply connected to the mythological realm, but it avoids overt or literal references, choosing instead to subtly suggest these themes. Pushkale’s use of a muted color palette contributes to a sense of tranquility in his pieces, giving them a meditative quality. On closer inspection, the motifs and symbols embedded in his works reveal deeper meanings, inviting the viewer to interpret and reflect on his art more fully. This layer of subtlety and introspection is enhanced by his delicate brush strokes and shading techniques, adding further complexity to the artwork.
Pushkale's exhibitions include several significant solo shows, such as 'Serendipitous Encounters' at Aicon, Palo Alto (2009), ‘Unveiling’ at Bodhi Art, Mumbai (2007), and ‘Japa’ at Bodhi Art, New Delhi (2006). His works have also been featured in a range of prestigious group exhibitions, including ‘Vicissitudes of the Constructed Image’ at Tangerine Art Space, Bangalore, ‘Think Small’ at Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi, and ‘Deep In Black’ at Galerie Muller and Plate, Munich, all in 2009. His works have been part of several important shows in India and abroad, showcasing his talent and international reach.
In 2003, Pushkale was honored with the S.H. Raza Foundation Award, a recognition that highlighted his contributions to contemporary Indian art. His style, which balances intricate detailing with a quiet, meditative atmosphere, places him as a unique voice in the landscape of modern Indian painting.
Pushkale currently lives and works in Delhi, continuing to create art that challenges the viewer to look beyond the surface and engage with deeper, mythological themes and ideas.
