The Bardoli Satyagraha of 1928 occurred in Bardoli taluka, Surat district, Gujarat, a predominantly agrarian region where most of the population relied on farming. The movement arose as a response to oppressive tax policies imposed by the British colonial government, which disproportionately burdened the farmers.
Led by Vallabhbhai Patel, the Satyagraha was a protest against a 22% tax hike introduced by the Bombay Presidency amidst the hardships caused by famine and floods. This agrarian movement became a pivotal event in India's struggle for independence, showcasing the power of nonviolent resistance in challenging unjust policies.
