Folio, one of 1000, photo-lithographicaly produced, limited edition copies. Original green cloth gilt, extensive decoration in gilt on both covers, title in gilt on front cover and spine. Very nice, Fine colors.
This book is one of 1,000, photolithographically produced 'The Constitution of the Republic of India', which came into effect on January 26, 1950.
The original of edition, 'The original Constitution of India' is handwritten document with beautiful calligraphy, each page beautified and decorated by artists from Shantiniketan including Nandalal Bose, Rammanohar Sinha and others. The calligraphy in the book was done by Prem Behari Narain Raizda. This elaborate edition took nearly five years to produce and that is kept in a special helium-filled case in the Library of the Parliament of India. The illustrations represent styles from the different civilizations of the subcontinent, ranging from the prehistoric Mohenjodaro, in the Indus Valley, to the present. The present edition is a photolithographically produced facsimile of the hand written original and is published & photo-lithographed at the Survey of India Offices, Dehra Dun.
