A lavishly produced work produced in response to requests for photographs from many of the Ruling Princes of India who had presented the Prince of Wales with many of these weapons and artifacts during his visit to India in the 1870s. That is probably the reason why the book is seldom encountered in England. These objects were displayed around the UK and in Paris after the Prince's return from India and at the Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886 before finally being displayed in these two residences. Those at Marlborough House were removed some years ago.
