Highly decorative art deco style cover with 23 pages of text followed by 23 photograph, each photograph printed on one side of the page only.
This is an elaborate brochure on the silent film made in Germany and based on Edwin Arnold's book of verse The Light of Asia, with the screenplay written by Niranjan Pal, based on the life of Gautam Buddha and published in 1879. The film was directed by Franz Osten and Himansu Rai who also played the role of Buddha in the film. In India it was released as Prem Sanyas. It was an Indo-European co-production and was made with the cooperation of the Maharaja of Jaipur and was shot mostly on sets in Lahore. The sets were designed by Devika Rani. The role of the heroine was played by Seeta Devi, an Anglo-Indian whose real name was Renee Smith [1912-1983]. Josef Wirsching was involved with its cinematography.

This lot is in good condition, however sporadic creases, minor tear, mild foxing can be observed which are inherent in the provenance and use of these works.
