Edward Lear's Indian Journal

Edward Lear's Indian Journal - watercolours and extracts, 1873-1875

Edited By Ray Murphy
LONDON: Jarrolds
Year: 1953
Size: 23.5 x 16 cm (9.2 x 6.2 inches)
pp. 240 with Index with 9 full-colour illustrations and 12 halftone illustrations. An excellent ex-library copy in original brick-coloured cloth. The title-page is clean.

Lear - the writer of nonsense verse but also a great artist - travelled all across India from November 1873 to February 1875 with his Italian servant and made more than 2,000 watercolours. He had come to India at the invitation of his friend, Governor-General Earl of Northbrook. A very readable journal full of Learish humour.
