ATTRIBUTED TO J. P. GANGOOLY

FARMER AND BULL WITH PLOW

Size: 47.4 x 32.3 cm (18.6 x 12.7 inches)

The artwork shows simple yet a realistic composition, featuring farmer and bull with plow. Artist has intensified the hot weather and dry barren field by applying dark shades intermixed with patches of light in tumultuous brush strokes, lure the movement and flow of the farmers work and that of nature.

Farmer, a skinny dark bodied man wearing white dhoti and turban seated in a surrender position and straight gazing towards the sky praying for rain. Two bulls with plow on the upper left also looks tired and hopeless after working so hard in the field.

Artist has try to show worsen condition of farmer in a relentless heat wave.
