BELUR MATH

Image size - 40.3 x 34 cm (15.8 x 13.3 Inches)
Mount size - 48 x 42.5 cm (18.8 x 16.7 Inches)

This painting depicts exterior of the Belur Math. Belur Math is located in Belur, West Bengal on the west bank of Hooghly River. It is the headquarters of the Ramkrishna math and mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramkrishna Paramahansa.
The architectural beauty of this math documented through this work. The main entrance of the temple which has a fasade influenced by Buddhist styles in the Buddhist stupa at Sanchi & the main entrance of Ajanta caves. The structure which rises over the entrance is modelled on the Hindu temples of South India with their lofty towers.
Bright green trees and vegetation accompanied the structure from both sides breaks the monotone and dramatic treatment of this work.
