Bhowmic, S.

SHIVA

Signed by Artist in English Bottom Left Corner

Image size: 18.5 x 14 cm (7.2 x 5.5 inches)
Mount size: 36 x 29 cm (14.1 x 11.4 inches)

The artist paints Lord Shiva consuming the 'Halahala' poison to save mankind. Despite the intensity of this moment, Shiva is depicted in a state of peace with meditative half closed eyes. A luxuriant crescent moon adorns Shiva’s tresses held in a 'jata' by a snake in this watercolour. The third eye and the 'Tripunda' mark on Shiva's forehead enliven his face.

Orange coloured sun like halo in the background framing the face of Shiva and ice blue colour applied by the artist in the lower part of the composition creating an illusion of 'Shiva' emerging from Sea. The minimal and subdued colour palette used by the artist enhances the overall beauty of this work.
