Hand-coloured aquatint portrait frontispiece of Tippoo Sultan
40 plates by H. Merke, I. C. Stadler and Harraden after James Hunter.

Contemporary full crimson morocco, covers with extensive gilt decoration with Greek key pattern panel, spine gilt, gilt edges.

Early issue with plates watermarked J Whatman 1802.

The views include of Seringapatam, Bangalore, Mysore and the surrounding countryside.

James Hunter was a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery under Cornwallis during the Third Anglo-Mysore War where British and Company troops defeated the Tipu Sultan.
