Publishers original half leather over decorative red cloth gilt hard cover binding, title in gilt on cover and spine.
Very decorative binding in fine condition. Excellent condition.

Colonel Thomas Holbein Hendley (1847-1917) was a British medical officer in the Indian Medical Service and an amateur authority on Indian art. Hendley based his pioneering study of Mughal art treasures on the extensive collection of the Maharaja of Ulwar ("at whose whole cost this book is published", and the total value of which the author estimated at the sum of about two million pounds sterling), and research he carried out "in the native capitals of Rajputana"
