Edme Mentelle (1730-1816)
Mentelle was a French geographer born in Paris in 1730. He studied under Jean-Baptiste Louis Crevier at the College of Beauvais before becoming professor of geology and history at the Ecole Militaire. He was a founding member of the Institut National des Sciences et des Arts in 179. Some of Mentelle’s published works are Geographie Comparee 1778, Atlas Universel 1779, and Cours Complet de Cosmographie, de Chronologie, de Geographie et d’Histoire 1801.
