The work shows image of Sapera or Snake charmer in action of snake dancing or performance, he is playing pungi or been in front of a snake. Earlier this snake charming practice was a kind of street performance and eventually banned throughout the country in 1991.
The theme of this work documented contemporary event of the society of Callcutta in that period. After having moved out of their rural bases, Kalighat artists recorded things which piqued their interest about the new urban locations in which they found themselves.
