The work depicts a sketch of Rabindranath Tagore. It is created by Mukul Dey, he is known for his landscape and portrait of renowned personalities of the time from diverse fields of politics, literature, science, education and also of the leading entrepreneurs, acquaintances, family members and friends.
Deys wonderful, fresh and warm portrait of this scholarly figured old man (depicted subject has resemblance of Rabindranath Tagore) evokes a sense of deep concentration. The humanity of the portrait, as well as the vivid evocation of form, space and character by the simple device of asserting light and shadows, suggests that Dey had mastered in his drawing and etching skills of this period.
