This is a still-life paining, which depicts a fruit plate on bright green flat platform loaded with apples, grapes and banana. There is also a sharp knife placed next to fruit plate at lower left. Both the plate and the fruits are illuminated by a strong external light that creates a remarkable play of shadows. The vibrant bright colours used by the artist changes the overall impact of this work as a product of true realism which is the forte of Bikash Bhattacharjee.
Artist has created a very simple, direct composition that are nonetheless marked by a conception of space and light that lends a solemn, timeless quality to the food.
