The painting depicts a solitary figure seated on the ground in a desolate landscape. Next to seated figure who is absorbed in contemplation or sorrow there is an empty basket and broken pieces of idols (terracotta figurines) spread on the ground. Artist has representing the emotion of loss, hard work, labor and struggle of local craftsman.
The warm hues of sky suggest a setting sun, casting a reddish glow over the scene. A barren tree stands nearby, its branches reaching out like skeletal arms.
The overall mood is one of solitude, introspection, and the weight of a challenging existence.
