The work depicts a woman performing puja and offering flower to god. Artist has romanticizing the female figure by the treatment of skin tone, texture and detailing of textiles, jewelries and hair and the subtly pose. The painting shows artists deft handlings of colours to achieve ethereal effect. At the same time one cannot completely deny that artist has male gaze in mind.
Luminous appearance of the woman stands out in dramatic contrast to the darker background that is only enhanced by the tone of silken sari she draped in. The style of this painting followed in the tradition of Raja Ravi Varma and covered the same range of religious subject with the touch of theatrical drama.
The richly carved pillars, falling curtains and partial view of ancient icon or sculpture giving the background a magical appearance with sense of depth.
