Artists Profile
Ratna Vira
Ratna is known for her charcoals, specially faces that express facets and emotions of life. The eyes in her charcoals speak of the stories within, the struggles, and the experiences of the people she draws. She has moved towards expressing herself in mixed-media and collage, and frequently uses recycled materials with traditional fine art formats. Ratnas art, like her writing, reflects raw emotion that seems to look deep within you and beyond almost through you. Her various series include Political Animals (which provides a metaphor for the world around us), Reflections, The Journey Within, and Pukka Indian (which relooks at contemporary Indian women). Do you see me,each piece asks, as the lines and the lives merge with her words and brush strokes to create something new, something modern, while remaining timeless.
