These books are filled with most beautiful Hand-colored Aquatints, Lithographs & Engravings. They present the glorious images of Indian Architecture, Culture, People & their Social life of this period. These books are filled with images which were sketched and engraved by most important Artists, Engravers & Hand Colorist and their combined efforts has embodied in stunningly beautiful images.
This auction includes many Great Books such as:
1- First Edition, First Issue of Most Beautiful Bird Book on India ‘A Century of Birds of Himalayan Mountains with 80 hand-colored Lithographs by legendry artists couple Elizabeth & John Gould, done in 1831.
2- It also has Extremely Rare complete set of ‘Journal of Indian Art’ their issue no. 1 to no. 128 published monthly between 1883 to 1914, this work is corner stone in shaping the history of art in Modern India, it is so rare that we have not found any auction record of complete set in last 50 years.
3- ‘Picturesque Tour Along the River Jamuna & Ganga’ done by Charles Forrest in 1824, which shows some of the finest Indian Architectural Scenery as seen from the river Jamuna & Ganga including Delhi’s Red Fort & Taj Mahal of Agra.
4- Greatest book on Punjab, Sikhs & India is ‘The Portraits of Princes & People of India’ by Hon’ble Miss Emily Eden, who was the sister of Lord Auckland, the Governor General of India, and who had the rare opportunity to travel with his brother to Punjab where she got the unique private appointment to make portrait of Maharaja of Punjab Ranjeet Singh.
5- Rare First Map book of India by James Rennell titled ‘Bengal Atlas’ done in 1781.
6- William Wood’s Extremely Rare ‘Views of Calcutta’ done in 1833.
7- The first book solely devoted to ‘Rock-cut Temple Architecture of India’ by James Fergusson.
8- R M Grindley’s ‘Views of Western side of India’ which is amongst the most beautiful plate book India showing the scenery of Western India, Bombay, Rajputana & Gujerat.
