Miniature Painting From Company School
This miniature painting draws our attention towards a narrative which is based on the context of deer hunting. The horizontal composition shows a detailed mountain landscape with overlapping fields. We can see female hunter wearing cloths of green leaves which is typical of tribal people like ‘Bhill’ whereas male hunter can be seen in simple villager attire with turban. The multiple scenes of the narrative travels through foreground to middle ground of this composition.
Simillar series of painting created in 19 th century, across royal courts depicts ‘Bhil couple hunting deer’ and interestingly many of the paintings even portrays royals dressed as Bhils and this was such a popular theme in the art of the time.
